Barb Martin Corbeil

 

 

Barb Corbeil was a two-time All-American, two-time All-Region, four-time All-Conference player at the Air Force Academy. After graduation, she represented the United States Armed Forces at the national and international levels, competing in three CISM (Conseil International du Sport Militaire, or military Olympics). As captain for the U.S.A. team during the '87 Games in Ankara, Turkey, Barb brought home the gold medal and earned MVP honors. She returned to the Air Force Academy as an assistant coach, later taking on the head coaching position. Her teams were ranked nationally in the top 15 every season. Highlights of her Air Force Academy coaching career were winning the conference championship and ranking #2 in the country, the latter earning her the 1994 Conference Coach of the Year title. As a court coach at the U.S.A. Olympic Training Center for the Jr. National program, she was an assistant coach in the World University Games. For ten years she coached club volleyball for the Alamo Juniors VBC in San Antonio, Texas and Colorado Juniors in Colorado Springs. While coaching, she officiated intercollegiate competition and the AVP beach volleyball circuit. As one of few elite referees holding national certification in both indoor and outdoor volleyball, she was selected to respresent the U.S.A. as an official in the inaugural beach competition at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

Barb took a hiatus from volleyball to raise three children and has gradually reentered the sport, coaching for Pacific Ridge School at the middle school level for the last four years. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in History from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master's of Science in Computer Information Systems from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. She has earned the highest coaching certification, CAP III, by USA Volleyball, is IMPACT certified, and is a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance.

In addition to head coaching for Carlsbad Juniors VBC, Barb also offers private instruction.
